Hi Tyra. I'm a 20 year old black female. I like that you do shows on many different topics, but there is one topic I think should be covered that really isn't talked about much. Racism. I went on youtube just looking up things and came across something that said I HATE BLACK PEOPLE. i watched it and people are so hateful. a lot of people really don't like us. I left a comment and I got hate mail from one person. He/She really doesn't like black people. They think that we are all bad people. Murders, education, rapings, robberies, drug dealers, etc are some of the things that this person touched on. They think that's all we do and that's all we're worth. Even after I tried to explain to them that black people are starting to do a lot in this country and making a big impact I was told that I should shine their shoes and wash their underwear. I didn't know that racism was that bad in this country still. I also want to say thank you for all that you have covered on your show. It's good to see black people doing positive things.
Hey tyra dis ya girl meme.I am dark skin and proud of it i dont hate on light skin girls. i mean what for black is what in..I get noticed everwhere i go because i'm dark skin. thats a good thing that mean all eyes on me...
Hi Tyra,
I saw your show about light and dark skin tones in the black community. I wish you had more light skinned girls on your show because I think it is important that dark skinned woman who feel inferior know that everyone wants what they cant have. I am black, mexican, and Italian and proud of it but I don't have any dark skinned friend. This is not because I don't want them but because I don't fit in. I go to a church that has a majority of black people. When I walk in the girls my age gave my dirty looks and wouldn't talk to me. People assume that I'm stuck up. People say that I'm white washed because I have a white boyfriend and listen to rock music. I don't believe that anyone should have to act a certain way or be stereo typed because of their appearance. Thats why I'm happy you had the light vs. dark skin show.
Hi Tyra!
OMG, I can't believe I'm writing to you! I super respect you Tyra! I look up to you 'cause you are proud to be who you are and you teach others to be proud of themselves to!
anyway, I am 20 years old, a Filipina, with dark skin, yeah.. Not very dark though but dark (kinda morena).. What's always made me insecure is that people (teen usually) made fun of people with darker skin.. I mean, they love the tan, alright, but when it goes darker than that, they'll be looking you're way when you walk up in the streets, whispering how you look weird! Just f****n hate it when people make fun of people who are different.. I just can't understand what exactly is wrong with the 'cause WE are not a white-society.. But still, people in here are so crazy about 'whitening products' (even if they're skintone is already white!) I just don't get it.. And since I was in highschool, I get insecure because everytime I wear something that shows a little skin, they'll be like "oh, she thinks she's all that! How dare her show-off like that, she's not 'light-skinned' anyway." Urrrggghhh! I don't have anything against them because they are different from me, I just don't think it's OK to discriminate people because they are different.. light/dark skinned, skinny/fat, gay/straight, we are all people and we are beautiful, WHATEVER kind of 'skin' we are in!
Huh.. That's good, letting all these people know how I always felt..
I just love the Tyra Show 'cause you guys make other people realize that being different doesn't make you less of a human you already are.. And you kinda teach people a lot of things they should understand..
Shoutout to all! WE ARE BEAUTIFUL!
Hi Tyra,
I am a dark-skinned, beautiful woman and I am proud of my features. I am not ashamed, nor than I feel inferior to my light-skinned companions. I understand that there is a problem in our society where people with darker complexions feel insecure and view themselves as less than what they are. This truly breaks my heart, but I am thankful that my parent instilled in me the ability to see myself as beautiful.
Hey TYRA!
I'm an African American girl living in southern Cali, and what some people may not know is that dark skin girls where I'm from get treated so badly. I always am unsure about myself when I meet people especially men. I feel as though men look at darker skinned women as just "friends" or "cuddie buddies" rather than a person they can have a relationship with. So, I do feel pressure everyday to think twice about myself because of how dark my skin is. But as I'm getting older I have been starting to realize that the problem is with me it's with people who judge me because of how dark my skin is.
Hi, Tyra I am a big fan of yours since forever, I am 17 years old and I am dark skinned
I dont like that I am darked skinned I wish i was light skinned because everyone thinks that they are so pretty. Being light skinned I think would boost my confidence. Light skinned people are what attracts people to look but being dark skinned no one really notices u barely. And if u are dark skinned people will remember u in a bad way and not a good way. But u learn to live with it everyday
Hey tyra i am a hispanic women and i love my skin i am dark skin also and i think that the color of your skin shouldnt matter you can do anything you put your mind on it i have dark hair and i have gone to hair dressers that tell me that because of my skin i should have dark hair but i want lighter hair and i have seen you on the show you have lighter hair and it looks good tyra you skin color doesnt matter we can make anything look good thanks tyra for your kind words
I am a proud latin woman at the age of 60. The problem of skin color is every where. There are problems in Mexico my home country, where white skin is Tops. Here in the states, Afrcan people treat there own people very bad. Your show donot not help. You yourself have not acceped who you are, You wear so many wigs!!! If you are a white and marry a Black person and have a Child, that child is treated Black. That is SAD. This country is a sad place,Your show and you are part of the problem. Wear Your own Hair. The NAppy Hair you have. Stop trying to be White. Anaperla.
I watched yesterday's show on skin bleaching & my jaw literally dropped.
I am dark skinned Korean-American who faces judgement within her own race.
In Korea, light skin symbolizes purity & beauty, so many partake in skin bleaching as well.
As I grew older, I accepted the tone of my skin & loved the fact I was different.
I was excited to lay out in the sun & become "carmelized".
Those women on the show should be proud of their skin because there are plenty of girls who envy it.
Tell them to listen to India Arie-Brown Skin. LOL.

My answer is NO! Its what you make of anything that makes it beautiful or ugly. I have a sister who looks like mw but is white. Im the dark version but im more popular than her and that's in a good way.
Dear Tyra,
I want to comment on what was said by one of your viewers. I am a Black woman, and I want to say that I agree fully with the comment made by Jordan Vallene. First of all, Blacks(Africans)were the first to enslave their own race. Then, they sold their own people into slavery to the Whites/Causcasians/Europeans. Therefore, blacks have no right to continue blaming Caucasians for the way they (Blacks) continue to discriminate against people within their own race. There are a lot of evil and sick-minded black people in this world. Furthermore, Black people are teaching one another to not like another black person based on his or her skin tone. Black Entertainment such as BET and others are very degrading shows that have Black hosts, famous Black guest/Entertainers that dehumanize dark-skinned Black women. It is true, Many Black men(famous or not) speak negatively and poorly of dark-skinned Black women. So, my advice to everyone who blames the white/Caucasian man for the ways Blacks discriminate against other Blacks, "It's not the Caucasians problem, its a "Big" problem within the Black race. Blacks need to stop discriminating against one another.
Sincerely,
Rhonda
Dear Tyra, those people are sick, especially the woman who bleached her kids, that should be illegal.SICK SICK SICK! Blame it all on MEDIA!
anchal is very beautiful. i'm an asian woman with golden tan skin and naturally curly hair. when i went back to my homeland, everyone is obsess about whitening skin products. they have whitening lotion, cream, serum and milk bath to whiten people skin. anyone who is lighter skin asain they are consider beautiful. peple i know back home kept telling that i should whiten my skin and out of their kindness, i was given many whitening skin care. it's very ignorance to say that all asian look the same. as asian, we come in different shades, shapes and sizes as well, but only group of women in catelog/magazine we see are chinese/japanese/korean looking women. personally, i think that we have a ray of beauties here in America. we can see many beautiful women in all ethnic background. i'm so proud that anchal speak out for other asian. what she said is true and i didn't realized it before until that trip. thank you.!!
Dark skin is beautiful I am a dark skin female. I used to think I was pretty because my skin was so dark but I dont feel that way anymore. I looked in the mirror one day and said forget what other people think im beautiful and so is Anchal I dont think any girl should feel unpretty.

im darker skin-ed (tyras extra ed) and when i was young i thought all the lighter skin girl were really pretty. as i got older my opinion has definitely change but i still have those ugh im so dark skin especially when you see all these cosmetics, skin cleanser, payless bogo sales commercials with light skin blued eyes girls. like as if us chocolate sistahz are not as pretty.
Ok......I have longed for the day for this discussion to actually become a "discussion". I am what they call Tawny, I am the dark of the light spectrum and the light of the dark spectrum. I am a divine mixture of a very fair light mother and a dark skinned father. I have black curly hair and to by most I am called light-skinned, to some who are lighter I am true-tawny. I grew up in a house with a very-fair mother and a sister who was a chocolate color. Now, let me begin by saying... those who were born with people on color may have a different view on things, but I was born in 1974 and the first woman of color that I saw praised in the media for her beauty was Vanessa Williams. I love her and she is in my mother's so called category, but she did not reflect most of us. Let's face it dark skinned women have been abused!!! PERIOD, look up the full meaning of abuse. They have been discounted. There once was a saying that black men use to say "if its white or light-its alright, if its black jump back" for me that sums it all up!!! I too have fell victim to comments by darker women assuming that I have some preverbial "golden spoon" in my mouth and I promise you that couldn't be further from the truth. You see I have been on both spectrums, I was considered dark by my mother's relatives and light by my fathers. I have had both identity challenges. Its easy to say comments like don't let men who like lighter women forge your self-esteem, but let's look at it from this view point. As a people who have struggled just to have identity as humans. We as a whole have been called UGLY! Beauty gives one the sense of value, in essence that which is beautiful is meaningful and therefore can not be dicarded or mis-treated. You women of other colors besides dark, better here this... I remember the tears my sister shed whilst being told that she would have been cute if she was lighter. She was gorgeous yet the ideal of dark verses light, caused her to be discounted. I pray my point has been made.
